Professor Desmond Tsang, Associate Professor, Accounting, lead a group of students for a Study Tour in Vietnam, which focused on Ho Chi Minh City–Saigon in mid-July, 2017. For the first time, the tour took place combining 2nd year students of the Desautels Faculty of Management’s McGill MBA Japan program and Professional MBA (PMBA) students from Montreal.
The students visited important international companies such as JETRO, Mitsubishi corporation, Mitsui & Co, Pharmascience, Sapporo, and more. The students also had cultural experiences through the city tour and the cooking class.
Through these visits and activities, students learnt about the Vietnamese history, how the country achieved the rapid growth in a decade, and the ideas about the future of Vietnam.
Professor Tsang who lead the tour commented, “It was a valuable learning experience for all of us during our stay in Vietnam meeting with company executives and government officials. Nonetheless, the interactions between students from Japan and from Montreal have been great. Overall, the trip to Vietnam has been successful in bringing students of different culture and background to explore the opportunities and possibilities offered by a fast growing emerging market. I hope more students would take advantage of this unique learning adventure and join us for future trips.”
The Study Tour to Vietnam is part of our unique series of Study Tours in Asia which help to broaden our students’ horizons, develop their understanding of other countries and cultures, and to solidify McGill’s network throughout Asia and the world. Previous study tours have included Chong Ching and Kunmin China, Shanghai and Bejing, as well as Myanmar. Since 2015, students have selected Vietnam as a study tour destination. This year, the participants also enjoyed developing friendships between the students from Japan MBA and Canadian PMBA.
